The theme and sub-themes of the Conference

The theme for the conference is:

Transforming Education for a New Africa: Realising the Potential of Open Learning and Distance Education  

In this context, the following sub-themes will be addressed:  

• Understanding the changing nature, provision and relevance of distance education in Africa, and the applications of the new information and communication technologies.

• Exploring the role that distance education, based on open learning principles, can play in different education and training sectors and in helping to realise key development goals.

• Identifying the challenges with regard to achieving relevant, cost-effective, quality distance education provision in Africa.

• Devising strategies for implementing distance education in Africa, through, for example:  

• quality assurance  

• policy frameworks

• sharing of good practice and research

• in-country, regional and all-Africa collaboration

• the use of ICTs.
